As a social enterprise company based in Canada, PARADE operates according to the definitions of "social enterprise" stipulated by the Canadian government: organizations whose objective is to have a social impact, whatever corporate form they take, non-profit organizations, registered charities and profit generating enterprises who carry out businesses with a social goal.
On this basis, PARADE functions as a platform for the dissemination of events, publications and research projects related to the role of art and design in supporting communities, improving the built environment and social benefits broadly defined.

It also supports organizations, individuals, publishers and event organizers in the logistics of event outreach, marketing, administration, and production of conferences, books, journals and individual research projects.

Amongst the support services it offers are marketing across academic and professional circles of books, journals and events. It does this through its extensive email blast network, its integration into international event and publication listings platforms and its website.

It can offer third party copyediting services, publication formatting services, and consultations on all the main aspects of the scholarly communication process including indexing, publishing, and impact. Periodically it has also advised on grant funding opportunities.

It has four main areas of discipline interest: architecture and urban design; art and design; media and communications; and environmental / social studies. In all these fields it seeks to support the socially oriented work being done by academic institutions, scholars and related organizations.
